The art of debating is something I always try to practice and improve in me. When I was in High school, I was introduced to it. Then onwards, it became my second nature to put my opinions and back them up with logical reasoning and evidence. However, I have never done an ethical debate before.
The ethical debate as the name suggests is a debate of ethics. It is about choosing the houses based on ethical implications. In the assessment, we are required to look at the trends in diverse fields of advancement. Most of the time, I decide my side of the argument based on monetary benefits or costs, a long-term story, or part of the bigger picture. But this assessment is an assessment of my self-control in making decisions on ethics rather than my usual framework of parameters and I have to halt my mind's process of decision-making. But what was more surprising is when I went through the whole process, at the end when I chose the facts I have before me and compare it with the choice I would have made was the same.
The question I decided to answer to was whether making Augmented and Virtual Reality available to all is effective or not. Some may say it is a game changer but skepticism has always been attributed to the concept. During this course of answering, I have drawn my process of working on debates or presenting my opinions. The process started with learning what this technology is all about? and what forms the core of this technology. I think this was a great opportunity to learn about the detailed process of this futuristic technology which can storm the world. Thereafter, I look for the opinions of others about the technology. Learning how different people can see the same thing and trying to prove their point convey what you believe, you have the ability to deliver to others and start a revolution. After looking for the points made by individuals for and against the concept, I have through various research papers and experiments to justify the point. Learning about various analyzing methods and interpreting them was a plus point and will be effective in my way of analyzing the data and making relevant points.
After every aspect of the concept was before my eyes, perception start forming in my head. It was unnerving to see a concept that can unlock the mysteries but can ruin society if given into the wrong hands. I believe that freedom without accountability will ruin the entities and this debate was kind of proven. Although I don't have group members unfortunately during the class seeing my other peers with their groups, I have learned that time management is really important and coordination creates huge differences. Learning about Agro-Tech used in Australia is a highlight for me since I came from an agricultural family background and about this knowledge, I had a long discussion with my father. When the topic of clean fuel was talked about, it irked my curiosity and I have learned a few more facts about its status in my motherland.
From the point of view of businesses, introduction to the new trend of augmentation and genetic engineering can be the first mover advantage for me. What these technologies can do and how they do is part of the process to identify the advantage that I can have and using it to evaluate the companies I would like to engage myself with.
Lastly, Using presentation in the debate is something new. Presenting is an important part of my field. Before of pandemic and after entering university, I was missing to showcase my presentation skills. But again, this time I challenged myself and used new techniques to present and use visuals to make my point rather than just depending on text. The most challenging part of this activity was how to visualize to make a point. Choosing the right type of chart to show the process was quite difficult as I have to ensure that I don't use a lot of words to describe it. Using correct pictures to show the result was quite difficult. Although I have found quite a few research papers but deciding which one of them was the best fit took time.
In the end, Learning is what drives me and it will keep on. Watching my fellows talk about their opinions and their passion was a fruitful experience and adding new information about their field.
